Home elevators are generally vertical elevators installed in private residences, serving as convenient living facilities for family members to move between floors. The "Special Equipment Catalogue" defines an elevator as: a power-driven electromechanical device that uses a car running along rigid guide rails or steps running along a fixed route to lift or transport people and goods horizontally. According to Articles 25 and 40 of the "Special Equipment Safety Law of the People's Republic of China," the installation, modification, and major repair of elevators must be supervised and inspected by a special equipment inspection agency in accordance with the requirements of safety technical specifications. Subsequent use must also include periodic inspections in accordance with safety technical specifications.
Home elevators are privately owned and have very limited carrying capacity, therefore they are not considered special equipment subject to government supervision under the "Special Equipment Safety Law of the People's Republic of China." The production, design, and configuration of home elevators follow GB/T 21739 "Specifications for the Manufacturing and Installation of Home Elevators," and do not require mandatory type testing, supervision inspection, or periodic inspections. When homeowners purchase one, it's like adding a "major item" to their home; they can negotiate and commission inspections according to their needs.
