Discussion on the safety of home elevators

Mar 04, 2026 Leave a message

Home elevators refer to elevators intended for single-family use only and not for public use. In recent years, the sales volume of home elevators in my country has exploded, and home elevator manufacturers have sprung up like mushrooms after rain, resulting in inconsistent quality. The State Administration for Market Regulation has strict regulations on special equipment in three stages: production, use, and inspection, implementing full-process supervision. However, home elevators are not included in the scope of special equipment supervision.

The appendix to the "Announcement of the State Administration for Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine on Revising the 'Special Equipment Catalog'" (No. 114 of 2014) clearly defines elevators as special equipment, and home elevators installed in non-public places and intended for single-family use are not included in the category of special equipment. Therefore, the government does not implement mandatory supervision and management of home elevators under the "Special Equipment Safety Law of the People's Republic of China," and their manufacturers do not need to obtain a special equipment production license.

Therefore, home elevators are not regulated because they are not classified as special equipment. In fact, in terms of inherent safety, home elevators still require strict control over their production, installation, and testing.
