Home Elevator Size Guide: How to Choose the Right Home Elevator

Mar 08, 2026 Leave a message

With the increasing prevalence of home elevators in residences, choosing the right size elevator has become an important issue. The correct size not only ensures the comfort and convenience of elevator use but also makes full use of limited home space, avoiding waste.

Understanding Family Needs and Space Conditions

When choosing elevator size, first clarify the actual needs of family members. If there are elderly or mobility-impaired individuals in the family, the elevator interior should be spacious enough to facilitate wheelchair access. Simultaneously, measure the space in the elevator shaft or installation location to ensure it can accommodate the chosen elevator.

Considering the Number of Users

Elevator size is also related to the number of users. If there are many daily users, it is recommended to choose an elevator that can accommodate more people. Generally, home elevators have a load capacity between 250-400 kg and can accommodate 3-5 people. However, if there are fewer family members, a smaller elevator can be chosen, saving both space and cost.

Determining the Internal Space Layout

The internal space layout of the elevator is crucial to the daily user experience. For example, the opening direction of manual or automatic doors, the position of handrails, the height and direction of the control panel, etc., ensure greater convenience for users when entering, exiting, and operating the elevator.

Determine the door opening size

If there are wheelchair users in the household, or if the elevator is used to move large items, the door opening size is very important. Typically, the door opening width of a home elevator is between 70-90 centimeters. It is recommended to choose a door opening size of at least 70 centimeters to allow wheelchairs to pass through easily.
